Parks & Recreation of New Britain, Connecticut

With over 1,200 acres of park system within the city, New Britain is a dream city for anyone who loves the great outdoors. The city is served by a great Parks and Recreation department that maintain beautiful facilities for residents to enjoy year round. There are several parks located throughout New Britain that offer something for everyone.

Head over to A.W. Stanley Park (2159 Stanley Street) for an adventure amongst the treetops. Go Ape! features 5 treetop obstacle courses including canopy walks, zip lines, tarzan swings, rail track, and more! The park also features walking trails, a kids play area, and dogs are welcome!

Stanley Quarter Park (451 Blake Road) is a tranquil oasis in town. Enjoy fishing on the lake or a leisurely stroll along the walking trails. There is also a playground, skate park, and ball fields located within the park.

Willow Street Park (43 Willow Street) is perfect for those that love to be active outside. With a splash pad, playgrounds, play fields, basketball courts, shuffleboard courts, bocce courts, and life size chess and checkerboard! It is also a great spot for family and community gatherings with its 70 foot picnic pavilion.

Want to work on your golf swing? Hit the green at Stanley Golf Course (245 Hartford Road). One of the best golf courses in the Hartford area, this public golf course has 27 holes along with a heated and lighted driving range that can be used throughout the year.

The city of New Britain strives itself on providing excellent K-12 educational institutions for its residents. Academic excellence for the youth of the city is a major priority. New Britain is served by the Consolidated School District of New Britain. Children at the elementary level, grades PK through 5, have many different options for schools, including Chamberlain School (120 Newington Avenue), Diloreto Magnet School (732 Slater Road), Gaffney School (322 Slater Road), Holmes School (2150 Stanley Street), Jefferson School (140 Horse Plain Road), Lincoln School (145 Steele Street), Northend School (160 Bassett Street), Smalley Academy (175 West Street), and Vance School (183 Vance Street). For those students in grades 6 through 8, they can attend the House Of Arts Letters And Science (Hals) Academy (370 Osgood Avenue), Pulaski Middle School (757 Farmington Avenue), Roosevelt Middle School (40 Goodwin Street), or Slade Middle School (183 Steele Street). There are several excellent options for students in high school. The main public school in town is New Britain High School (110 Mill Street), however students can also attend The Academy of Science and Innovation (600 Slater Road) or E.C. Goodwin Technical High School (735 Slater Road).


New Britain is also home to Central Connecticut State University (1615 Stanley Street). This excellent public institution of higher institution offers great educational and cultural activities to the wider community of New Britain.

Residents in New Britain have access to the Hospital of Central Connecticut located at 100 Grand Street. This medical center serves as the major community hospital for the city. It has emergency services as well as a staff of highly trained medical professionals able to provide all necessary medical services to the local population. In addition, the Hospital for Special Care (2150 Corbin Avenue) is located in New Britain. This facility provides rehabilitation for patients in need of acute or chronic care over longer periods of time.
